In this article, we present the 14 greatest lakes located on Georgia’s controlled territory. We think that they deserve to be visited this year, most of all. Of course, all lakes are selected subjectively based on our taste; however, we have not excluded objectivity either B-) Please, let us know and comment, which lake is your favorite one and which you want to see most of all.

1. Kelitsadi Lake
It is among the lakes that are located at a high altitude in Georgia. Kelitsadi Lake is situated on the volcanic plateau of Keli between extinct volcanoes of Esikomi, Sherkhota, and Khorisari. The lake is covered with snow and ice the most time of the year (9 months).
Location: Kazbegi Municipality, the Keli Plateau.
Altitude: 3 081 MASL.
The best time to visit: August – September.
2. Lebardes Didi Toba (Lebarde’s Big Lake)
Location: Samegrelo, Martvili Municipality, the southern slopes of the Egrisi Range.
Altitude: 2 300 MASL.
The best time to visit: July – September.
3. Lebardes Chiche Toba (Lebarde’s Little Lake)
Location: Samegrelo, Martvili Municipality, a few kilometers from Lebardes Didi Toba.
Altitude: 2 400 MASL.
The best time to visit: July – September.

4. Tsashkibuli Tobavarchkhili
It is also known as Patara Toba (Little Lake).
Location: Samegrelo, Chkhorotsku Municipality, the southern slopes of the Egrisi Range.
Altitude: 2 550 MASL.
The best time to visit: July – September.
5. Chitagvala Tobavarchkhili
It is also known as Didi Tobavarchkhili (Big Lake).
Location: Samegrelo, Tsalenjikha Municipality, the Egrisi Range.
Altitude: 2 650 MASL.
The best time to visit: July – September. 
6. Tsakatskari Toba
Location: Samegrelo, Chkhorotsku Municipality, the southern slopes of the Egrisi Range.
Altitude: 2 580 MASL.
The best time to visit: July – September.
7. Lakumurash Toba
Location: Svaneti, Mestia Municipality, the northern slopes of the Egrisi Range.
Altitude: 2 550 MASL.
The best time to visit: July – September.
8. Black Rock Lake
It is also known as Tamari Lake, Grdzeli Tba (Long Lake), Khalakheli. The lake is divided into two parts by the Georgian-Russian state border. The southern part of the lake is on the territory of Georgia, as for the northern part, it is on the land of Russia.
Location: Kakheti, Lagodekhi Protected Areas.
Altitude: 2 900 MASL.
The best time to visit: June – September.
9. Udziro Lake
Location: Racha, Oni Municipality, the western slopes of Mount Dolomisi.
Altitude: 2 800 MASL.
The best time to visit: June – September.
10. Jaji Lake
Location: cross-road of Samtskhe-Guria-Imereti, Adigeni Municipality, the range of Meskheti.
Altitude: 2 650 MASL.
The best time to visit: May – September.
11. Didi (Big) Okrotskali
Location: Svaneti, Mestia Municipality, tens of meters from the de facto border of Abkhazia.
Altitude: 2 400 MASL.

12. Tanie Lake
Location: Khevsureti, Arkhoti, Dusheti Municipality, the Tanie Valley.
Altitude: 2 200 MASL.
The best time to visit: June – September.
13. Mtsvane Tba (Green Lake)
Location: Adjara, Khulo Municipality, the range of Arsiani.
Altitude: 2 000 MASL.

14. Levani Lake
Location: Javakheti, Akhalkalaki Municipality, the volcanic plateau of Abuli, the Abul-Samsari Range.
Altitude: 2 570 MASL.
The best time to visit: April – October.
It will take at least 18 days to visit all the lakes, and you should be in good physical condition.
Choose your favorite ones and target them 😉 It is a long time till the most active hiking season (Summertime), so use inactive one effectively ^^
