Kazbegi Municipality is an administrative-territorial unit of eastern Georgia in Mtskheta-Mtianeti. Stepantsminda is the administrative center. Kazbegi covers the historical-geographic area of Khevi.
Kazbegi Municipality is the mountainous region. The local relief is mostly rocky and hard to reach – erosive, volcanic, and old glacial relief forms are common here; the relief is sporadically karstic.
The main orographic units are the Khevi Caucasus, the meridian ranges of Shani, Kuro, and Kidegani and the side range of Khokh.

The local cuisine is dominated by meat (dishes made with meat are usually popular in mountainous regions) and dairy products; they brew beer on holiday celebrations. The most famous dish is khinkali made with chopped meat. As for drinks, they prefer mountain beer – Alutoni.
There is a wide variety of attractions for lovers of mountains, lakes, hiking, and traveling in Kazbegi Municipality. Must see places here are: the Truso Gorge, Kelitsadi Lake, the big and little waterfalls of Gveleti, the gorges of Darial and Khde, the stunning panorama view at Stepantsminda townlet from the Kuro Range. Do not forget to visit the Gergeti Trinity Church, the Sno Gorge, Juta village, and its stunning massif of Chaukhi. The lovers of mountaineering should not miss the chance to climb Mount Kazbek and the rocky massif of Chaukhi mountains. As for lovers of rock climbing – try the natural climbing wall in Arsha village. Gudauri ski resort will host winter tourism lovers.

You can find guesthouses in Stepantsminda, Sno, Achkhoti, and Gergeti. There are available campsites in the villages of Arsha and Juta. Also, the local relief is convenient for staying at night in tents.
Kazbegi can be visited using several different routes. In case you have time and love hiking into the wild, you can try various beautiful hiking trails. It is possible to get from Kazbegi to Khevsureti via Chaukhi Pass, to Arkhoti via Arkhotistavi Pass and to Gudamakari via stunning Kvenamta Pass.
